History 2005- May 28th 2017

ieTV was originally launched as the first local cable channel in Trinidad and Tobago, its content consisted of archival material based on Trinidad and Tobago’s history, culture, festivals and Carnival etc.

Its parent company at the time VA Films (Video Associates) produced plays by local playwright Freddie Kissoon, Caribbean Cooking programs among other local programming. As part of its permanent schedule, there was always an Indian movie on a Thursday and Sunday and in addition to this the station provided Indian entertainment such as the Bollywood Fashion Awards from New York, the Bollywood Music & Movie Awards, Valentines and Mother’s Day Concerts by Indar Kanhai, Radio 90.5 Annual Cookout and Easter Kite Flying Competition, Divali Mangalam and others.  The station’s Management Team recognized the need based on requests from the public for more East Indian programming and it was for this reason that the decision was taken for ieTV to become the #1 Indian Entertainment Television Cable Channel. This did not pose much of a challenge since the  Chief Executive Officer Mr. Anthony Maharaj has had a lifetime of experience in the Indian Motion Picture Industry, his parents being the
early film distributors of Hindi films from the 1940’s, such as Mother India, Nagin, Sindoor to name a few and he himself continuing the Indian film distribution to this day with the distribution of 1942 A Love Story, Pardes, Mohora, Dil To Pagal Hai and many others. Mr. Maharaj is also a Writer, Director and Producer of several American films, and Associate Producer of Merchant & Ivory’s “Mystic Masseur” based on Vidya Naipaul’s book and the  Bollywood film “Dulha Mil Gaya” starring Shah Rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen, and Fardeen Khan, which was filmed on location in Trinidad and Tobago of which he is the Executive Producer.   Mr. Anthony Maharaj has also been responsible for many of the early concerts held in Trinidad such as Mahendra Kapoor, Vijantimala and in more recent years, producing the 2005 Bollywood Music Awards, 2006 Bollywood Movie Awards, the Shaan / Jatin Lalit  Concert in 2008 and Producer of the internationally acclaimed Plymouth Jazz Festival held in Tobago from 2005 to 2008.
